Shooting On Dan Ryan Is 27th On Expressways This Year

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Dan Ryan is now back open after Illinois state police closed part of the expressway when someone shot at a tow truck.

Troopers were searching for evidence, but police still don't know who fired the shots.

This shooting happened about 10:45 p.m. Sunday, just before the ramp to southbound Interstate 55.

No one was hurt.

Illinois State Police say shots hit the driver's side door on the truck, which had an SUV attached.

The address on the side of the tow truck was traced to A-OK Automotive in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood. The owner told CBS 2 that the truck involved in the shooting was not affiliated with his business and neither is the driver. He says he's not sure why someone would pose as one of his drivers.

A few lanes of the inbound Dan Ryan were shut down while troopers conducted their investigation and searched for shell casings.

This is the 27th expressway shooting this year. That is up from 19 last year and 16 the year before.

Just last week, state police announced they would be working in conjunction with other agencies to fight crime on the expressways and adding about 10 troopers to the expressways to help combat violence.

They're also conducting more traffic stops and seatbelt checks.
