Brown, Purple Line Work Resumes On Ravenswood Connector

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Work on the CTA's Ravenswood Connector Rehabilitation Project continues this weekend.

Once completed, the $90 million rehabilitation will provide smoother, more reliable rides for the more than 40,000 customers who ride Purple Line Express and Brown Line trains each weekday, according to a statement from the CTA.

Brown Line trains will temporarily be rerouted to the Red Line subway between Armitage and the Loop beginning 8 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Monday, September 14, the CTA said.

On Friday, the last Loop-bound Brown Line train operating on the elevated tracks will depart from the Fullerton station at 7:20 p.m., and depart from Washington/Wells at 7:35 p.m. for the return trip to Kimball, the CTA said.

The first Brown Line train operating via subway on Friday will depart from Fullerton at 7:29 p.m. to Roosevelt and, the first Kimball-bound train will depart Roosevelt at 7:57 p.m., the CTA said.

Brown Line trains will operate normally between Kimball and Fullerton. Customers are encouraged to plan ahead to allow extra travel time, the CTA said.

For customers boarding at Armitage, Sedgwick, Chicago and Merchandise Mart, free shuttle buses will operate in both directions between Fullerton and Clark/Lake, the CTA said.

A shuttle train will operate for connections to Brown Line service in the subway and the free shuttle buses at Clark/Lake for customers in the downtown/Loop area. Customers will be able to board from the Outer Loop platform, where Brown Line trains normally run, the CTA said.

The Ravenswood Loop Connector work will require one additional temporary, weekend-only reroute of Brown Line trains to the Red Line subway. Weather permitting; the final weekend reroute of Brown Line trains will begin at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, until 4 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21.
