Chicago Area Woman Meets Bone Marrow Donor From Oklahoma

(CBS) -- A young man from Oklahoma who donated his bone marrow to a southwest suburban woman got to meet her in person on Sunday.

20-year-old Josh Riggs came into town from Oklahoma to meet 23-year-old Emily Dziedzic.

Dziedic, who lives in Worth, Illinois, was diagnosed with leukemia for the second time in October of 2013.

"I was mad, I was not happy, but we decided let's do it, let's get it over and done with and the bone marrow and everything kind of came into place," she said.

Riggs says all it takes is a few cheek swabs to see if you're a match.

"If not enough people are registered, then they'll never find a match and it's a shame if you can save a life and you chose not to," he said.

And he urges everyone to register as a donor.

Dziedzic says she's thankful that Riggs made the donation because it helped save her life.
