Motorola Solution will house some 800 employees and a high-tech demonstration area on six floors at 500 West Monroe Street.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel welcomes the people and what the move means for the company, which was founded in Chicago.

"This move by Motorola Solutions back home helps Chicago continue to build both in the tech economy and its diversity but also in its corporate leadership and the job creation," Emanuel says.

Why is the company moving to Chicago when the city faces so many financial challenges? Chairman and CEO Greg Brown says it's all about the long-term.

"When I think about marketing, sales, IT, software applications, the proximity to University of Chicago, Northwestern, UIC, Loyola and others, at the end of the day this is the right thing to do," Brown says.
