Some Runners Say They Got Last-Minute Notice About Changes To Chicago Event

(CBS) -- Chicago's Jackson Park will be packed with some unhappy runners tomorrow morning.

That's because scores of women who signed up for the Chicago "Women Rock" event are complaining about last-minute changes that are shortening their time on the track.

CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker reports.

Race participants, many of whom signed up months ago, got an email Thursday explaining that the three races they planned to run in one day won't be happening. Instead, they can only pick one.

Like many, Jangmi Johnson wanted some of her money back. She says organizers offered a $20 coupon for the store.

"That's not fair," she says.

The Chicago Park District, which grants the permit, acknowledges that organizers received notice of their race time earlier this week -- but only because they didn't turn in their race route until late last week.

Steve Bernas of the Better Business Bureau found complaints on the company, which is licensed in Minnesota under the name Team Ortho Foundation.

"They have an F rating, which is our lowest rating," he says.

"I don't know what to say about that," race manager Jim Larson says.

The race manager says he was willing to give refunds to those who were not satisfied. Those who want to file a complaint against the business are encouraged to contact the Minnesota Attorney General's Office because the company is headquartered in that state.
