Bears' Pernell McPhee: 'We Just Kind Of Laid Down'

By Chris Emma--

CHICAGO (CBS) --  The Bears' hopes of beating the Cardinals on Sunday were dashed when quarterback Jay Cutler left the game with a pulled hamstring late in the second quarter. What was a 28-14 game after the pick-six turned into a 48-23 rout by Arizona.

Following the interception, backup quarterback Jimmy Clausen failed to muster up much with the Bears' offense, with the unit struggling to stay on the field. As a result, pressure was put on the defense, which couldn't do much to prevent the Cardinals from rolling up yards and a victory.

As a result, the Bears fell to 0-2 on the season. Seeing how the Bears lost composure amid adversity was disappointing to veteran linebacker Pernell McPhee.

"I'm not surprised, but I am surprised," McPhee said. "We got a young team. I just think that everybody's got to know, 'Hey, man. Once we get hit, that doesn't mean we let go. We got to keep fighting and keep pushing.' At the end of the day, we ain't keep fighting. We just kind of laid down."

Bernstein: Bears' situation all about perspective

Bears coach John Fox didn't sense a lack of moral after the game. He strolled through the Bears' locker room at Soldier Field and spoke with individual players, offering words of encouragement.

Next up for the Bears is a trip to Seattle to face the defending NFC champion Seahawks.

"We get paid to do this -- we get compensated pretty well," Fox said. "Almost everybody in there is classified as a professional, and that's what professionals do. They don't worry about morale. We get paid to win."
