Man Critically Wounded In West Elsdon Shooting

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was critically wounded in a shooting early Tuesday in the West Elsdon neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The 21-year-old was standing on a corner in the 5800 block of South Pulaski Road about 12:50 a.m. when he shouted gang slogans at a vehicle and threw a can at it, according to Chicago Police. Someone in the vehicle then fired at him, striking him in the head.

The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, police said.

Authorities initially reported that the man was dead at the scene, but police said he remained alive at the hospital as of Tuesday morning.

The suspected shooter, a 28-year-old man, drove off after the shooting but was later taken into custody in the 6300 block of South Whipple, police said. No charges had been filed as of 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.
