Cubs' Addison Russell Out For Game 4

By Chris Emma--

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Cubs will be without their starting shortstop for Game 4 and possibly beyond that.

Addison Russell remains sidelined with his hamstring injury suffered in Monday's Game 3 win, and Cubs manager Joe Maddon confirmed that Russell won't be available Tuesday. Additionally, Maddon stated he had no further updates on Russell's status moving forward.

A rookie shortstop, Russell felt tightness in his left hamstring while legging out a triple in the fourth inning of Monday's victory against the Cardinals that gave the Cubs a 2-1 lead in the NLDS. He left the game and Javier Baez replaced him on third base and defensively at shortstop.

On Tuesday, Maddon had to decide between starting Baez at shortstop of moving Starlin Castro to shortstop and starting Tommy La Stella at second base. He opted to start Baez.

"I want the defense out there," Maddon said.

The Cubs and Cardinals start up at 3:37 p.m. CT at Wrigley Field, with Chicago a win away from advancing on to the NLCS.
