Cubs To Leave Schwarber's Home Run Ball On The Board

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Kyle Schwarber's low-Earth-orbit home run survived re-entry Tuesday night, the ball nestling on top of the right-field video board at Wrigley Field, experts have confirmed.

It's right between the "e" and the "i" of the Budweiser sign.

And, according to the Cubs, that's where it is going to stay, for now.

Workers retrieved the ball Wednesday morning to make sure it was the real deal. It is, according to Cubs spokesman Julian Green.

The ball was placed in protective plastic, and maintenance crews returned the ball to its original resting place, at least for the remainder of the playoffs.

"It's a cool piece of history, given it's the first video board in a century of Wrigley Field and the first time we clinched at home," Green said in an e-mail.

Plans for the ball after the postseason haven't yet been determined.

There was no word on whether Schwarber wants to keep the keepsake.
