Dream Comes True For Chicago Boy Who Gets To Play Superhero

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A dream come true for a young Southwest Side boy diagnosed with a rare heart defect. He got to play a superhero at Navy Pier thanks to the Make a Wish Foundation.

Eric De la Torre is only three, so to him battling the Joker and Dr. Doom to save Chicago was very real. Blue Steel got to fly above Chicago with Spiderman and Captain America, then swoop down and battle bad guys like Dr. Doom.

Eric's mom Alma says things like this give kids like him hope.

"He's a real super hero but we also have to remember that he's not the only supe hero fighting big battles, there's other little kids just like him battling the biggest battles of their lives," she said.

Eric is diagnosed with a life threatening cardiac condition that has required several surgeries and procedures.

He was born without a gene that stretches his heart muscles and lets it grow.
