What are the scope and responsibilities of your current role?

"I am in-charge of all business development, marketing activities, client relationship management, valuation analysis and report production."

What is your favorite part of your daily duties?

"[My favorite part of my day is] helping clients with custom tailored perfect solutions."

Do you feel your education prepared you for your current role?

"Absolutely. Jacksonville University is quite unique in that 97% of the teaching faculty hold a Ph.D., and all classes are taught by the actual professor, versus a graduate assistant.  Moreover, the business valuation practitioner must fully understand accounting, corporate finance, economics and possess superior writing and communication skills. I also complete approximately 80 hours per year in continuing professional education; which enables me to keep my skills, expertise and knowledge sharp and current."

Do you have any advice for people who desire to pursue a similar career?

"I would recommend first earning a bachelor's degree in accounting with at least a minor in economics or finance. A master's degree in accounting or finance or a Master of Business Administration will also provide a solid intellectual foundation. I would also highly recommend taking business valuation courses through the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts ('NACVA')."
