Illinois Lawmakers To Propose Restrictions On Fantasy-Sports Sites

State Could Regulate Fantasy Sports Sites

(CBS) -- The fantasy sports industry will be the focus of new legislation to be unveiled at a news conference at the Thompson Center on Tuesday afternoon.

Illinois Democratic State Rep. Mike Zalewski of Riverside is co-sponsor of the legislation.

He tells WBBM the measure would be the first-of-its-kind set of regulations to govern the play of daily fantasy sports.

"This is unique in that it establishes the best practices for an emerging industry," Zalewski says.

The legislation comes as websites like FanDuel and DraftKings, which offer pay-to-play fantasy sports contests with cash payouts, soar in popularity and gain scrutiny.

Zalewski says he and state Sen. Kwame Raoul, D-Chicago, want to "make sure everyone has a good time and offer consumer protection for players."
