Fox Lake, Joe Gliniewicz Target Of Lawsuit

(CBS) -- A Fox Lake man filed suit against village leaders and others today claiming he was wrongly targeted as a suspect in the death of Lt. Joe Gliniewicz.

Randolph Vernon is suing the village, the mayor and former police chief, along with Gliniewicz's estate.

He ways he was harassed and intimidated over the course of a year.

According to the lawsuit, Vernon said he was stopped by the disgraced police officer on numerous occasions.

He says he was targeted because he was black, including after Gliniewicz falsely told dispatchers that he was pursuing two white men and a black man, before taking his own life.

He claims he was suspected in Gliniewicz's death because of his history with the officer.

Vernon's attorney, Kevin O'Conner, says his client is currently in the hospital, being treated for stress-related health issues.
