(CBS) — A candidate for the Congress in Illinois says if those in office now don’t want to do their job he will.

Javier Salas is running for the 4th Congressional District covering the West Side of Chicago. Congressman Luis Gutierrez has held that seat since 1993, and Salas says he’s disconnected from his constituents.

A study reported in USA Today lists Gutierrez and Congressman Bobby Rush of Chicago as some of the lawmakers who’ve been missing in action most often.

Salas wants Gutierrez to return 15.1 percent of his salary, which equals $412,849.

WBBM reached out to Congressman Gutierrez’s office but he could not be reached for comment.
