New Ordinance Would Prohibit Fast-Tracking City Asset Sales
CHICAGO (CBS) -- At today's Chicago City Council meeting, aldermen are expected to approve an ordinance that will shed more light on any plans to privatize City services or City assets.
After three years of negotiations, Ald. Roderick Sawyer says this ordinance will require at least 90-days of review if officials want to turn over a City asset to a private company to manage.
Remember the ill-fated parking meter deal that got rushed through the Council?
Aldermen don't want a repeat of that.
The ordinance requires a study of cost effectiveness if there's a proposal to privatize a city service.
Mayor Emanuel had suggested privatizing the 311 non emergency call center, but that plan's been shelved.
