CHICAGO (CBS) -- Each year, the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago helps 1,400 families with disaster relief, due to home fires.

On Tuesday, CBS 2 and CBS Radio are hosting the annual CBS Chicago Cares Telethon to support the Red Cross.

Volunteers at the CBS 2 Broadcast Center at 22 W. Washington St. will be answering phones throughout the day to take your donations.

There are several ways that you can give:

  • You can make a donation RIGHT NOW online at cbschicago.com/redcross
  • On Tuesday, callers will be available to take your donation at 855-350-2900 until 7 p.m.
  • You can text "REDCROSS" to 90999 to donate $10 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief.

We're also handing out free carbon monoxide detectors to the first 500 people in line Tuesday at the North Lawndale fire station, 3941 W. 16th St., starting at 11 a.m.
