Man Robs Second Northwest Indiana Bank This Month

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man robbed a bank in Chesterton in northwest Indiana Tuesday morning, which authorities suspect may be the second bank he has robbed this month.

The man walked into the First State Bank of Porter at 429 N. Calumet Ave. just before 10:30 a.m, according to Chesterton police Chief David Cincoski. He gave an employee a note and showed a weapon, receiving an undisclosed amount of money before running southwest away from the bank.

The suspect is described as a black man between 30-35, standing about 6-feet with an average build, according to Cincoski and the FBI. He was wearing dark pants, a navy parka, and a beanie with "CAVS" inscribed on it.

The FBI suspects the same man was involved in Nov. 2 robbery in Portage, Ind. He walked into the Horizon Bank branch at 2650 Willowcreek Road about 12:30 p.m. with a handgun, according to the FBI. No one was injured, and he escaped with an unknown amount of money.

In that robbery, the suspect wore a Jamaican-style hat with fake dreadlocks, a black hooded jacket, light blue jeans, and tan work boots.

The FBI has offered a reward for any information that could lead to the robber's arrest. Anyone with information about either robbery should call the FBI at (317) 595-4000.
