White Sox Sign RHP Jacob Turner To 1-Year, $1.5M Deal

(CBS) Two days after non-tendering him and sending him to the open market, the White Sox have retained right-hander Jacob Turner on a one-year, $1.5-million deal, they announced Friday.

The 24-year-old Turner was acquired off waivers from the Cubs in late October after a 2015 season in which he didn't pitch in the majors. Turner dealt with a strained flexor tendon in his right elbow for most of the season. He had a 2.00 ERA in nine innings at Double-A.

Turner has a career 4.97 ERA in 61 career games, 51 of which have been starts. He was originally chosen in the first round (ninth overall) by the Tigers in the 2000 amateur draft.

The White Sox also made the signing of catcher Dioner Navarro official on Friday. He signed a one-year, $4-million deal and will compete with Alex Avila for playing time behind the plate.
