Woman Charged In Winnetka Bank Robbery, Suspected In Another In Elmhurst

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A woman charged with robbing a bank last month in north suburban Winnetka is also suspected of robbing another bank in west suburban Elmhurst.

Arden Metalitz made off with $1,000 after she robbed a Chase Bank branch Nov. 6 at 791 Elm St. in Winnetka, according to a federal criminal complaint.

About 11 a.m., the 19-year-old Metalitz, who lives in Evanston, passed a teller a note that said, "Give me all your strapped 100′s 50′s 20′s, I have a gun and a knife on me," according to the complaint and the FBI. The teller handed her an assortment of bills adding up to $1,000.

Authorities patrolling the area around Green Bay Road less than two miles south of the bank following the robbery noticed a car driving at high speed whose occupants matched descriptions of the robbery suspect and who were "staring at the police vehicle as they drove by," according to the complaint. After police stopped the car, the three women inside, including Metalitz, provided identification and no incriminating information, so they were released.

On Monday, authorities questioned the other two women in the car, who provided information about Metalitz's involvement in the Nov. 6 robbery as well as an Oct. 29 robbery in Elmhurst.

In that robbery, Metalitz handed a teller at the Bank of America Branch at 205 N. Addison a note that said, "Give me all of your strapped 20′s, 50′s and 100′s, I have a gun," with the denominations underlined, according to the complaint. The teller handed her $2,980 from the cash drawer.

The other women told authorities how Metalitz approached them before the first robbery asking for help planning and escaping, according to the complaint. One of the women used to work at a bank and recommended she ask for strapped stacks of cash, and received just over $400 for driving Metalitz in both robberies. The other woman received upwards of $200 from Metalitz for her help.
