Gorman participates in the Chicago Dance Marathon which benefits Children's Memorial Hospital and the Feed My Starving Child Event with her soccer team. She says it's important for young people to give back.

"I think it's crucial so young people can see what's going in the world and see what needs help," she said.

The surprise event was part of the Chicago-wide recognition campaign for student-athletes. It began Thursday night when six students from Andrew and Sandburg High Schools were honored for giving back through community service.
