CHICAGO (CBS) — A former Chicago attorney has been arrested in Texas for the 1973 murder of his wife.

Police in Sugar Land, Texas, said 73-year-old Donnie Rudd waived extradition to Illinois, and should be headed back to Cook County soon.

Arlington Heights police helped arrest Rudd on Thursday for the murder of his wife, Noreen Kumeta Rudd, who was 19 years old when she died in 1973.

It originally was believed Noreen Rudd died in a single-vehicle crash in Barrington Hills only 28 days after their wedding, but her body was exhumed two years ago, and the autopsy led police to believe Donnie Rudd killed his wife before the accident, possibly to collect on a $100,000 insurance policy.

Police said Rudd, who has been disbarred, also is a suspect in the 1991 murder of a client.
