Tio Hardiman Calls On Emanuel Donors To Withdraw Support Of Mayor

(CBS) -- The former director of operation CeaseFire is trying to get the attention of Rahm Emanuel's big money supporters as he continues the protests against police misconduct on the mayor's watch, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.

Activist and political candidate Tio Hardiman gathered a small group outside Citadel Investment Group's headquarters, urging founder Kenneth Griffin to withdraw his financial support for Mayor Emanuel. He says the Laquan McDonald police killing's just one reason. The latest shootings—of a 19-year-old college student and a 55-year old woman—are another.

Clifton Graham, a former head of the Far South Suburban NAACP, says the weekend police shooting of Quintonio LeGrier shows the mayor isn't doing his job.

"Sheriff Dart has talked about the mental illness in the Cook County jails so it has been addressed to the mayor about mental illness," Graham said. "Mental illness happens all over the country, but you don't see them shooting innocent future college graduates."

Hardiman acknowledges the mayor has ordered reforms in police procedures and polices already, but he says it's only damage control after the administration tried to block release of the police videotape in the McDonald case.
