2 Suspects In Series Of North Side Robberies Arrested After Police Chase

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Chicago police pursuit early Wednesday led to the capture of suspects in a string of North Side robberies.

Investigators believe the men could be involved in at least eight robberies on the North Side last Tuesday and Wednesday.

Area Central and Area North detectives have been on the lookout for the robbery suspects all week.

Around midnight, police spotted a white Jeep Grand Cherokee on the Kennedy Expressway near Ohio Street. They believed the Jeep was one used in the robberies, so they began pursuing it.

After an hourlong pursuit, the Jeep was found at 49th Street and Prairie Avenue. Two men got away from the Jeep, but police later caught them near 56th Street and Calumet Avenue.

Police confirmed two weapons were recovered at the scene.

A second vehicle that might have been involved in the robberies was recovered early Tuesday in the 4900 block of South Lake Park Avenue.

The robberies involved all happened on the sidewalk, or in alleys and streets. In each case, multiple robbers exited a vehicle, approached the victim, showed a gun, and demanded property. The locations of the robberies include:

• the 3900 block of North Spaulding Avenue on Dec. 22,
• the 5300 block of North Kedzie Avenue on Dec. 22,
• the 5100 block of North Avers Avenue on Dec. 22,
• the 6800 block of North Seeley Avenue on Dec. 22
• the 4800 block of North Seeley Avenue on Dec. 23,
• the 5400 block of North Kedzie Avenue on Dec. 23,
• the 3800 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue on Dec. 23,
• and the 3600 block of West Berteau Avenue on Dec. 23.
