(CBS) The Blackhawks have officially assigned defenseman David Rundblad to the AHL affiliate Rockford IceHogs.

The 25-year-old Rundblad has played in just nine games this season, recording a pair of assists. He has three goals and 13 assists in 63 career regular-season games and played in five contests during the Blackhawks’ playoff run to the 2015 Stanley Cup championship.

In Rundblad’s place, the Blackhawks recalled defenseman Erik Gustafsson from Rockford. The team placed Runblad on waivers Monday, but he wasn’t claimed..

Fresh off a 7-5 win over the Coyotes in Arizona, the Blackhawks return to action on Thursday when they travel to Colorado to meet the Avalanche.
