Donna More Officially Launches Campaign To Unseat Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez

(CBS) -- Lawyer Donna More, who's hoping to unseat Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez, has formally kicked off her campaign for that office Wednesday with a broadside at the incumbent, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.

Former assistant state's attorney and federal prosecutor Donna More has been running for a while but her official campaign launched gathered her supporters to hear her say she believes State's Attorney Anita Alvarez let political considerations delay murder charges in the Laquan McDonald police killing.

"Anita Alvarez has run an appallingly lackluster office for years with delayed prosecutions, wrongful convictions and policies that favor influencers and the well-connected," More said.

Alvarez has insisted she has run careful and thorough investigations of police misconduct without playing politics.

Kimberly Foxx, a former assistant state's attorney and chief of staff to the Cook County board president, is running to unseat Alvarez as well.

More said she would have had an indictment weeks after Officer Jason Van Dyke killed Laquan McDonald. Alvarez says that shows More doesn't understand the complexity of such a case.

"She does not have the capacity to even look at a police shooting case," Alvarez said. "She has no idea. It's really disheartening and kind of scary to think that she'd be able to wrap up an investigation and a couple of weeks."

Both Alvarez and candidate Kim Fox brought up More's background representing casinos.

"Miss More is currently a gaming lobbyist and has been in the gaming industry for the last 25 years," Foxx said.

"She's been representing casinos all these years and that's how she's raised her money," Alvarez said.

More says, "When I went into private practice I represented clients to keep them on the straight and narrow in regard to complying with rules and regulations and I'm proud of the jobs I've done doing that."

Alvarez meantime called Fox the hand-picked candidate of Cook County board president Toni Preckwinkle. Fox completed the circle of campaign jabs.

"Our criminal justice system is broken," Foxx said. "Anita Alvarez has had her hand and breaking it we need new leadership."
