Man Charged In Fatal Shooting In Roseland

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A Far South Side man has been charged with killing a 32-year-old northwest Indiana man when a fight broke out among family members in a Roseland neighborhood home Saturday morning.

Terry Givan, 55, got into the fight about 10:30 a.m. with several relatives inside his home in the 11200 block of South Normal Avenue, according to Chicago Police.

The dispute escalated as it moved to a first-floor foyer, where Givan tussled with 32-year-old Corey Ferguson before pulling a handgun and shooting the younger man in the chest, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Ferguson was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 11:16 a.m., authorities said. He lived in the 1500 block of Ralston Street in Gary, Indiana.

Police didn't specify their relationship, if any.

Givan was arrested at the scene and charged with first-degree murder. He is due in bond court Monday.
