Medical Examiner Says Skull Fragments Found In Fuller Park Were Likely Donated To Science

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Authorities have determined the human skull fragments found in a Fuller Park warehouse on Monday most likely "were donated to science long ago."

Crews digging in the floor of a warehouse in the 200 block of West Root Street discovered the skull fragments Monday morning.

The Cook County medical examiner says there were 13 fragments of human skulls, including cranial caps, bases of skulls that had been sectioned and mandibles, jawbones.

The ME's office says an "investigation determined the remains were likely donated to science long ago. According to the investigation, the bones were found in a building that once housed a biological specimen facility."

That company was called the Biological Research Products Company.

The medical examiner's office said the skulls will be buried in one casket the next time the county holds a burial for unidentified remains.
