East Coast Blizzard Impacting Chicago Airports
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The impact of the nor'easter can be felt at Chicago's airports.
CBS 2's Jeremy Ross reports if you're not heading to major East Coast destinations, odds are good your flight will be on time. For those who are, frustration is setting in.
The fall out of the East Coast snow storms grounded thousands of planes nationwide and that impact continues to be felt here at O'Hare.
On flightstats.com we're seeing 60 to 75 percent cancellation rates for planes coming in from the major New York and New Jersey airports.
The departure stats are even worse. Most planes going from O'Hare to those airports are cancelled.
A quick check of Reagan National Airport servicing the DC area shows a cancellation rate of about 40 percent of all planes coming into O'Hare.
Departures again for that route are looking more dismal than that number.
On Sunday, more than 160 flights at O'Hare have been cancelled and more than 60 at Midway. It could get worse before it gets better. Flight Aware says flight cancellations nationwide stood at more than 600 for Monday.
The flight tracking website adding it expects that number to rise for the start of the travel week. Some are even reevaluating their air travel altogether.
"I really don't fly, somebody talked me into flying," said Larmont Rogers. "This is why I don't fly. Buses are always going to go where they need to go, no matter what. Airlines, a little wind, and it's over."
But the best advice before you get to the airport make check with your airline website or airport website before heading to the airport.
