In Fox Lake, Some Saddened By News Of Melodie Gliniwiecz Indictment

FOX LAKE, Ill. (CBS) -- Melodie Gliniwiecz is at her mother's home after bonding out jail Wednesday afternoon on charges of misuse of funds and charity.

CBS 2's Brad Edwards reports while just about everyone has an opinion, Fox Lake wants out of the spotlight.

Resident Jennifer Haroma says she is not surprised many people didn't want to speak about the indictment, but says many feel strongly on the matter one way or the other.

"I think everyone just needs to let that family mourn," Haroma said. "A wife lost the love of her life, four children lost their father and whatever may have happened or didn't happen, nothing is going to change that. I could only imagine what I'd be going through if that was me and that would be hell,"

This comes the day after an explosive CNN documentary that she watched. In it, Fox Lake Mayor Donny Schmit remembers telling Melodie Gliniwiecz they day it happened that she had become a widow.

"The wail that went out of her mouth then will stay with me forever," Schmit said. "She collapsed on the floor. She started becoming physically ill."

From widow to accused, one thing is agreed upon.

"I just think it's sad," said Haroma.

Melodie Gliniwiecz's laywer says she is "a victim of her husband's secret actions," setting up a defense she's a victim too, they claim.
