Chicago Police Department Moves To Discipline Three Officers For Handling Of Koschman Investigation
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Three Chicago Police officers are being disciplined for how they handled the investigation of then-Mayor Daley's nephew.
In 2004, Richard Vanecko hit David Koschman during a bar fight. Koschman later died.
It took seven years for Vanecko to be charged. He pleaded guilty and served 60 days in jail.
Interim Police Superintendent John Escalante says Lieutenant Denis Walsh, Sergeant Sam Circone and Detective Nicholas Spano didn't follow department policies in during the Koschman investigation.
The department is asking the Police Board to fire Walsh and suspend Cirone for one year without pay. The department has already suspended Spano without pay, a move which did not need approval from the Police Board.
In a statement announcing the moves, Escalante said, "We remain committed to upholding the highest professional standards and will continue to demonstrate our unwavering commitment to uphold the public trust."
