Adoptions At Anti-Cruelty Society Free On Valentine's Day

(CBS) -- Your Valentine could be waiting for you at the pound. WBBM's Nancy Harty reports the Anti-Cruelty Society is running a special adoption event Sunday.

Thanks to a partnership with the pet food company High Hopes, adopting a pet from the Anti-Cruelty Society will be free Sunday.

"We'll still do our normal adoption process so they will be screened, interviewed, fill out a questionnaire, everything like that," said spokeswoman Colette Bradley. "They just won't pay for the fee when they leave so it's a win-win for everybody."

She says that is a savings of between $60-$150, money you can lavish on your new Valentine.

"Animals make great companions, especially if you are alone," she said. "They are your partner, your everything."

Bradley says the no-kill shelter in River North is at about capacity and they hope to adopt out 40 dogs and 60 cats today. The Anti-Cruelty Society is open until 5 p.m. Sunday.
