(CBS) — The Music Box Theatre in Lakeview is offering movie-goers a rare chance to see more than a dozen films in a format from a bygone era.

The theatre’s 70mm film festival begins this weekend, and the schedule features classics like The Wild Bunch, Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo, and Cleopatra starring Elizabeth Taylor.

A newly installed 41-foot screen and state-of-the-art sound system will give the film’s even more life. Festival passes are already sold out, but tickets for individual screenings are still available for the three-week event.

General manager Ryan Oestreich says putting on the 70mm film festival is a physical undertaking for the Music Box staff because the film reels are so big.

“It’s double the width and double the weight so if you’re thinking of projecting one reel of 35 maybe it’s 20 pounds but a 70 millimeter reel can be 40-50 pounds.
