Farrakhan: Nation Of Islam Will Guard Beyonce, If Cops Won't

(CBS) – Chicago Nation of Islam Leader Louis Farrakhan says he's ready to step in and protect Beyonce, if police won't.

Some police officers across the country are refusing to offer security at her concerts, following the recording star's halftime performance at Super Bowl 50 and a related music video. Some agencies, including Miami's, took offense at imagery about high-profile police shootings.

They suggest police officers who work concerts off-duty should boycott her shows.

Farrakhan says his organization's security force, known as the "Fruit of Islam," could fill the breach.

"You're not going to offer her police protection? The FOI will," Farrakham said recently.

Chicago's police union could not be reached for comment. The Chicago Police Department says it will provide the traffic oversight and security outside Beyonce's May concerts at Soldier Field, like any other show.
