CHICAGO (STMW) — Two men have been charged with a home invasion in southwest suburban Lyons Monday night that led to a police chase that ended in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

Edwardo Ortiz, 51; and Calvin Kennedy, 35, have each been charged with one count of home invasion while armed with a firearm, according to a statement from Lyons village spokesman Ray Hanania.

Two armed suspects entered a home in the 4500 block of Pulaski in Lyons about 7:15 p.m., according to Hanania.

While the two were in the home, the resident’s daughter, who was upstairs at the time, called 911, Hanania said. Police arrived as the two men were leaving the home.

The suspects led Lyons police on an hour-long chase along the Stevenson and Dan Ryan expressways that ended near 65th and Wentworth, where Ortiz and Kennedy were arrested, Hanania said. No injuries were reported.

“Fortunately, no one was injured at the home. Police arrived just in time and the suspects fled the scene,” Lyons Police Chief Jim Keating said in a statement. “The victims were able to make a positive identification of the two suspects.”

Court information for Ortiz and Kennedy was not immediately available.
