Cubs Add OF Shane Victorino On Minor League Deal
(CBS) A day after the Cubs made a big move regarding their outfield mix for the 2016 season, they made a low-profile one.
Chicago has signed veteran outfielder Shane Victorino to a minor league deal that includes an invitation to spring training. Victorino, 35, split time between the Angels and Red Sox in 2015, hitting .230 with one homer, seven RBIs and a .601 OPS in 71 games. He's a career .275 hitter.
It will be an uphill battle for Victorino to make the Cubs' 25-man roster, as the team just brought back center fielder Dexter Fowler on a one-year deal Thursday, adding him to a mix that also has Jason Heyward, Kyle Schwarber and Jorge Soler in it.
