Man In Custody After Barricade Situation In Dixmoor

(CBS) -- Police arrested a 78-year-old south suburban man after a 16-hour standoff with police ended peacefully.

Police say they were called to a home in the 2000 block of West 142nd Street in Dixmoor at 6:50 p.m. Friday in response to a call of domestic disturbance. After they arrived on the scene, a woman told them that she was attempting to pick up her mother when the mother's boyfriend came out with a handgun and told her to get off the property.

The woman said her mother was being held against her will and that the man has multiple weapons in the house. Police set up a perimeter around the house and after 45 minutes, the man allowed the woman to leave the house and she was immediately checked for injuries.

Saturday afternoon, a 78-year-old man was taken into custody.

The Cook County Sheriff's Police Hostage and Barricade Team and other nearby police departments responded to the scene.
