White Sox's Adam Eaton Willing To Shift To Corner OF Spot

(CBS) A day after the White Sox signed outfielder Austin Jackson to a one-year, $5-million deal, incumbent White Sox center fielder Adam Eaton made clear he has no problem shifting to a corner outfield spot if that's what's best for the team.

"I don't know," Eaton said on the Mully and Hanley Show on Monday morning when asked where he'd play. "You'd have to ask Rick (Hahn) on that question. I'm excited for him to be on the club no matter what. I just want to win, that's really getting down to it. Signing the (five-year) contract I did last year, I think it proves to everyone I do want to win. I'll take a cut (money-wise) for the team. I want to make sure the team can go out and get players like Austin and help our team be better defensively and be better offensively and be better in the clubhouse. We know what he can bring. That's why I'm excited.

"Wherever they want me to play, whatever they need in order for us to be successful, I want to do that."

The 29-year-old Jackson hit .267 with nine homers and 48 RBIs in time split between the Mariners and Cubs in 2015. Jackson's well-regarded defensively, so he's expected to help the White Sox immensely in that area. Many consider him a better defensive outfielder than Eaton, so it'd make good sense to shift Eaton to a corner spot when Jackson plays.

"It's definitely going to send a jolt through the guys," Eaton said of the Jackson signing.

Avisail Garcia and Melky Cabrera are in the outfield mix as well.
