CHICAGO (CBS) -- Illinois State Police shut down all northbound lanes of I-57 for approximately three hours overnight, after a man was shot on the expressway in the Morgan Park neighborhood.

The 32-year-old man was driving north near 111th Street when he was shot in the leg around 1:45 a.m. Friday. He drove to the Halsted exit about two miles away, and stopped at a gas station at 99th and Halsted streets.

Paramedics took the victim to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was in good condition.

Illinois State Police shut down northbound I-57 for about three hours after the shooting while troopers searched for evidence and reconstructed the incident.

The shooting remained under investigation early Friday. Police have not said what led to the shooting.

The attack was the 7th expressway shooting in the Chicago area so far this year. Last month, state police launched a new initiative to increase patrols overnight and utilize undercover officers in an effort to reduce gun violence on the expressways.

Police have said most of the expressway shootings do not appear to have been random. They typically start on Chicago streets.
