(CBS) — 126 fugitives in and around Chicago are now behind bars after a nationwide crackdown by U.S. Marshals, reports WBBM’s Terry Keshner.

Shannon Robinson of The U.S. Marshals says Operation Violence Reduction 12 was a six week operation.

“We just really, really ramped up our focus and targeted the worst of the worst,” she said.

The fugitives include 53 gang members, 25 people wanted on sex related charges and 10 wanted for homicide.

“One significant arrest was the arrest of Sabino Avila,” Robinson said. “He was a gang member who was wanted by the Chicago Police Department for home invasion and rape that occurred in February of this year. Arrests like that are the types of arrests we were really truly focusing on.”
