Irving Park Bar Bouncer Killed In Shooting

Updated 04/04/16 - 10:32 a.m.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- An employee of a Northwest Side bar has died, a day after he was struck by a bullet while working late Saturday night.

Police say shortly before midnight Saturday night, at least one shot was fired from the street outside the bar hitting a 51-year-old worker inside of Brudders Sports Bar on the corner of Pulaski and Addison in the Old Irving Park neighborhood.

The man was shot in the head and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he died Sunday, according to police. His name had not been released by the Cook County medical examiner's office as of Monday morning.

An acquaintance said the man was a bouncer at Brudders.

A worker nearby didn't hear the gun violence, but recalled what happened after.

"Just a lot of people outside when the police came and I didn't really hear nothing, I was just by the coffee fixing up the coffee area," said Jose Rodriguez.

Police sources say right before the shooting, two women were kicked out of the bar. Whether that's related to the shooting, still isn't known. It does appear someone in the bar was targeted. Police are looking at past issues with the bar, to see if any prior incidents tie in, to the shooting.

"I've always seen people just hanging out in front and of course they see young people, especially looking like gangbangers, it's gonna cause a problem," said Tina Anaya, who lives nearby. "That's something that we don't need in this area."

A camera is right above the area where the bullet entered. There are multiple security cameras inside the bar. Detectives spent much of the morning going to nearby businesses, looking at surveillance video and doing interviews.

"It's really heartbreaking knowing that somebody wanted to take someone else's life," said Andy Fuentes, who works nearby.

Police said no one is in custody in connection with this investigation.
