1 Killed, 7 Wounded In Monday Shootings Across Chicago
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 17-year-old boy was killed and at least seven other people were injured in shootings Monday across Chicago.
The teenager was gunned down Monday afternoon in the Norwood Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
The shooting happened in a parking lot behind the Taco Burrito King restaurant in the 5500 block of North Harlem about 1:15 p.m., near where Harlem Avenue meets the Kennedy Expressway, according to Chicago Police.
He was found with a gunshot wound to the chest and taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed the fatality, but did not release the boy's name Monday night.
Most recently, two men were shot about 9:20 p.m. in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the South Side. They were sitting in a vehicle parked in an alley in the 1700 block of West 89th Street when a gray SUV drove past and someone inside shot them, police said. One man, 33, was shot in the right arm and left leg, police said. The other man, 31, was shot in the right arm, right leg and buttocks. They were both taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where their conditions were stabilized.
Shortly after 7 p.m., a 24-year-old man was shot and critically wounded in the South Side Oakland neighborhood. He was involved in an argument with two people in the 3800 block of South Cottage Grove, one of whom pulled out a gun and opened fire, police said. The man was shot in the abdomen and taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Monday morning, a man was shot and critically wounded in the Uptown neighborhood on the North Side. The 22-year-old was standing outside in the 900 block of West Buena about 10:20 a.m. when two males walked up and fired shots, police said. The gunmen ran off after the shooting. The victim was shot in the chest and was taken in critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Police said he is a documented gang member and a convicted felon; and the shooting is thought to be gang-related.
About 7 a.m., a 28-year-old man was injured in a Humboldt Park neighborhood shooting on the West Side. He was standing on the corner in the 1300 block of North Rockwell when he heard gunfire and realized he'd been shot in the right calf, police said. The man was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital. A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
Earlier Monday, a 25-year-old man was shot in the South Shore neighborhood. He told investigators he was shot in the left foot about 1:25 a.m. in the 7100 block of South Euclid, police said. He took himself to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized. A police source said the man was not cooperating with investigators.
Monday's first shooting left a 21-year-old man injured about 12:20 a.m. in the Southwest Side Lawndale neighborhood. The man was walking in an alley in the 1300 block of South Millard when someone in a dark-colored car shot him in the left leg, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
