Chicago Police Department Expanding Body Camera Program
(CBS) -- The Chicago Police Department is expanding their police body camera program and new Interim Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson is leading the charge.
Johnson and his command staff will wear body cameras in an effort to restore trust with the community.
Officials say they will receive about 450 new body cameras this week and they will be deployed in six police districts: Austin, Wentworth, Deering, Ogden, South Chicago, and Gresham.
The department has been testing body cameras in the Shakespeare Police District in and around the Logan Square neighborhood since January, 2015.
Police say they haven't received a complaint against an officer involved in the program -- though the department received criticism for not requiring the cameras to be recording at all times.
