CHICAGO (STMW) — A 79-year-old man was killed and another man was injured in a crash on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway early Thursday near northwest suburban Hoffman Estates.

The crash, which involved a van and a tow truck, happened on westbound I-90 at mile post 63.5 about 12:53 a.m., according to a statement from Illinois State Police.

The 79-year-old Elgin man driving the van was killed, state police said.

The tow truck driver, a 44-year-old man who was standing near his truck when he was struck, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

All westbound lanes were temporarily closed after the crash, but had been reopened by 6 a.m., police said. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
