Vinyl Enthusiasts Celebrating Record Store Day In Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Twenty years ago, records and record stores were left for dead – but they're coming back and today is the international celebration of Record Store Day. WBBM's Bob Roberts checked out the celebration at one store.

At Reggie's Record Breakers at 21st and State, people flipped through vinyl releases old and new as performers took the stage in one corner and urged people to buy their records.

WXRT's Ryan Arnold says the trickle of vinyl has become a flood.

"A lot of the newer bands are taking it to the next level where it's not just pressing a record and here's our music but the artwork, what's going into the packaging, what's going into the actual, physical thing, the whole experience of listening to music is really being embraced," Arnold said.

Not to mention liner notes, which Arnold calls pieces of art. It's no longer difficult to get cartridges and other parts at places such as Record Breakers for that dusty old turntable in your attic or to buy new ones.
