White Sox Place Catcher Alex Avila On DL

(CBS) The Chicago White Sox have placed catcher Alex Avila on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring and recalled catcher Kevan Smith from Triple-A Charlotte.

The 29-year-old Avila left Saturday's game against the Texas Rangers after the bottom of the sixth inning. He's hitting .214 in 10 games this season.

Smith, 26, is hitting .345 in eight games with Charlotte this season.
