Paris Sadler Gets 25 Years For Shooting Chicago Police Officer Del Pearson
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Paris Sadler, 24, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for shooting Chicago Police Officer Del Pearson, a day after pleading guilty to attempted murder of a police officer.
Sadler's surprise guilty plea came Wednesday as prosecutors and public defenders were preparing jury questionnaires for Sadler's trial.
The shooting happened March 19, 2012, as police were chasing Sadler down an alley near 85th and Kingston.
Prosecutors said Pearson and four other officers had stopped Sadler to question him for a possible curfew violation when he ran away. As police gave chase, Sadler tried to run inside a friend's home, but the friend wouldn't let him in. Sadler turned around and shot Pearson.
One bullet struck Pearson's bulletproof vest, and another hit an artery in his shoulder.
Pearson lost nearly two-thirds of his blood, and spent eight days in the hospital before he went home.
