Baby Rescued From Robbins Crash That Left Woman Dead, Man Injured

(STMW) --A 6-month-old girl was rescued from a crash that left a woman dead and a man injured Friday afternoon in south suburban Robbins.

A black Dodge Avenger was headed northbound on Pulaski Road near 136th Street shortly before 4 p.m. when it crossed into the southbound lanes and struck a silver Chevrolet Camaro head-on, according to Cook County sheriff's office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari.

The driver of the Camarao, 26-year-old Janeka M. Hicks, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was pronounced dead at 4:06 p.m., according to the sheriff's office and the Cook County medical examiner's office. She lived in the 13900 block of Central Park Avenue in Robbins.

The baby girl who was in the Camaro with her was taken to a hospital and "appeared to be OK," according to Ansari.

The 37-year-old man driving the Avenger was also taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries, but his condition was not immediately known, Ansari said. The crash remains under investigation.

Robbins police could not immediately provide further details about the crash Saturday morning.
