Two Wounded In Possible Road Rage Shooting In South Loop
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two people were wounded in an possible road rage shooting early Thursday in the South Loop.
A 23-year-old woman was suffered a graze wound to the head, and a 24-year-old man was shot in the buttocks.
Police said the incident began on Lake Shore Drive near Michigan Avenue, where a vehicle began following the victims' car. The couple made their way onto Lower Wacker Drive, where the first shots were fired. When the victims stopped at Harrison and Jefferson streets in the South Loop, someone in the other vehicle fired several shots, and drove away.
"We live right across the street. I heard some shots, and then some screaming. I came out on my porch, and I could kind of see a cluster of people running around, and I could see this kid on the ground. Then we called 911," Kevin Kernan said.
Both victims were taken to Stroger Hospital. The woman, identified as Debra Patten, was in fair condition, and the man was listed in good condition.
Police said Patton is a documented gang member, but said it's possible the motive for the shooting was road rage.
Investigators are looking for a white Chevrolet Malibu. No one was in custody Thursday morning.
