'Ferris Bueller' Turns 30; Celebrations Ensue In Chicago

(CBS) -- Is there a Chicagoan who didn't whoop and cheer for Ferris Bueller?

It's been 30 years since the movie opened and that is being celebrated with Ferris Fest this weekend.

CBS 2's Mike Parker reports.

Who can forget the north suburban teen who somehow fooled everybody again and again so that he could skip school?

And remember his tricked out bedroom? A replica of the room is drawing crowds at Chicago's Virgin Hotel.

It's part of Chicago's Ferris Fest, which marks the 30th anniversary of the John Hughes classic.

Actor Jonathan Schmock is in town for the celebration. Like the movie, he's still recognized, but he's not snooty, like the maître d' character he plays in the film.

"Parents come up to me and say that I just showed my kid 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off,' and they loved it," he says.

Ferris and friends hit the big screen 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the John Hughes Theater in Lake Forest.

Anyone? Anyone?
