White Sox Reinstate Melky Cabrera From Emergency Leave List

(CBS) The White Sox have reinstated outfielder Melky Cabrera from the family emergency leave list and also officially added recently acquired right-hander James Shields to the 25-man roster.

In corresponding moves, Chicago optioned outfielder Jason Coats to Triple-A Charlotte and designated infielder Jerry Sands for assignment.

Cabrera missed the team's three-game series at Detroit over the weekend. He's hitting .275 with four homers and 24 RBIs.

Coats was 0-for-5 in his short two-game stint that included his big league debut Saturday. Sands was hitting .236 with one homer and seven RBIs in 24 games.

The White Sox parted ways with two prospects to acquire Shields in a trade with the Padres on Saturday.

The White Sox host the Nationals on Tuesday night, with Mat Latos opposing Joe Ross.
